This privacy policy sets out how 1st Sea School uses and protects any information that you give 1st Sea School.

1st Sea School is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified, when using this website, you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

1st Sea School may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 17th May 2018.

What is personal data?

Personal data is all kinds of information that can identifying a physical person. e.g. name, address, phone number but the more obscure data including log, encrypted, electronic I.D's, IP address just to mention a few.

What is processing of personal data?

Processing of personal data is every action that is taken in relation to personal data, regardless of whether it is done in an automated way or not. Common processing actions are collection, registration, structuring, storing, adaptation, transfer and deletion.

We have limited our website tracking but as some still exists e.g. location data, IP-number, cookie identifiers, unique identifier of devices you use to access and use the services and our websites, this data makes us the Data Controller - though we don't actually 'control' this - our partners who design, host and maintain our website, do have access in order to provide the service.

1st Sea School are also data controller for personal data processed when someone telephones or emails requesting our services.

What we collect:

The Booking process and student records (RGN B7)

Any data collected by 1st Sea School will be the minimum required for the purpose of course bookings and qualification registration.
For this reason there is a requirement to share some of this data with the Royal yachting association (RYA) that it may be recorded and placed on the RYA central data base.
The reason that 1st Sea School and the RYA hold this information is that we can refer to our records in the case of replacement certificates.
For this purpose data is keep for a maximum of six (6) years then destroyed iIn compliance with RYA guidelines.

On completion of your practical course (Powerboat Level 2, Day Skipper, Yacht- master Coastal/Offshore) your name, contact details, date of birth, certificate number and date of issue will be shared with the RYA via a secure web portal on www.rya.org.uk the data will be stored on the RYAs central database . This information allows the RYA to record your qualification, to update any records they may hold for you, and to verify or replace your certificate if required. For other practical courses (Powerboat level 1, Powerboat Intermediate, Basic Helmsman) and theory courses The data recorded on these qualification will be retained at 1st Sea School office for a period of six years only this information allows us at 1st sea school to verify or replace your certificates.
After this period the documents will be destroyed.

SRC Exams:

This information will be held at the 1st Sea school office for a period of Five years for the purpose of verification then destroyed.

Fitness to take part and Health declaration (RGN 7)

1st Sea School run both Theory and Practical courses.
Theory courses are generally held in our classroom at the main office.
For off locations theory the hosting organization Club / Individuals are to ensure that the area is suitable and fit for purpose.
Practical courses are held on the school boats we use only Coded or local authority registered vessels, as follows:
For Powerboat Courses:
We normally use RIBs or small cruisers under 10m LOA.
For Cruising Qualifications:
We only use Cruiser type vessels over 10m LOA.

Emergency Contact Details:

1st Sea School has in place a system of recording your emergency contact details on a form held in the 1st sea school office
This information is only held for the duration of the course and destroyed there after.

Instructors Records: (RGN B3)

1st Sea School shall keep a record of all instructors qualifications, this is to ensure that all instructors hold the appropriate and in-date qualifications.

How will we not use the information about you:

We will never use any personal data for any purposes than those listed in this Privacy Policy, unless we  have your written consent or inform you prior to fulfilling your request in our course of providing the service you have asked for or a purpose that is compatible with and in accordance UK laws and regulations.  We will not share your personal date unless we are ordered to do so by Law.
