COVID-19 PRACTICAL COURSE ADJUSTMENTS:
Given the current RYA Covid-19 recommendations, as a business we have decided to implement the following changes to how we expect our courses
to be run.
Furthermore, it is important to note that whilst each individual will have their own preference, belief or understanding of the guidance, our guidelines must be adhered to whilst working with 1st Sea School or attending one of our courses.
STUDENT RATIOS:
Normal will have the following student - instructor ratios:
Powerboat courses (RIB) 3 - 1.
Cruiser courses (Sealine SC35 or similar) 4 - 1.
When instructing during own boat tuition (OBT):
Under 10m 3 - 1, over 10m 4 - 1.
COURSE START TIMES:
Course start times shall remain as normal, 0900 - 1600, unless on a practical night navigation exercise.
DAY SAILING:
All courses shall return to the home port on completion of each day.
STUDENT DISTANCING:
Where possible social distancing rules must be adhered to, this will fall into two parts, 2-metre distance and 1-metre distance.
- Where possible we must try to keep 2 metres apart, at this distance we do not require you to wear a face covering.
- At a 1 metre distance face coverings are a strong Recommendation and should be used.
- No more than 2 persons are to be below deck at any given time unless they are from the same household.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:
During the present Covid-19 situation there is to be no sleeping onboard the school's vessels.
On returning to our home port all students and instructors are to vacate the vessels.
If operating in an Own Boat situation, separate cabins should be used when possible unless from the same household.
CATERING:
Food preparation onboard is not recommended when there are more than two households onboard.
We shall as always supply snacks and drinks but students are requested to supply their own packed lunches.
CLEANING OF THE SCHOOLS VESSELS/OFFICE AND EQUIPMENT:
Every effort must be taken to ensure that the vessels and classroom/office is kept as sterile as possible.
Because of this, specialist-cleaning products will be provided for disinfecting between users.
The school vessels and classroom/office must be cleaned down at the end of each day, this is to include all hard surfaces and door handles with
disinfectant.
The decks and cockpits will also need washing down including the handrails.
Between courses a full washdown by maintenance.
Where possible the heads should not be used, if used, then a full clean
down by the user after use.
STUDENT HEALTH DECLARATION:
As laid down in the normal company operating instructions, clients/students are reminded to complete the online health declaration prior to attending a course.
On arrival students are to have their temperature taken and asked if they have to the best of their knowledge any Covid-19 symptoms, or if they have
been in contact with anyone who has.
If a student/client shows signs of Covid-19n during the course the office is to be notified at the 1st opportunity possible.
DEVIATION FROM THE COVID-19 REGULATIONS:
The safety of the vessel and its crew is paramount at all times.
With this in mind you may, if the circumstance dictates, deviate from the rules laid out above, such cases must be reported to the Principal as soon
as possible.
Our standard working risk assessment must still be followed with special consideration for the Covid-19 Adjustment.
